Elk Camp and Cookout

OUTDOOR CHEF KURTS 2008 ELK HUNT was a great time for all who attended. We were hunting in the fossil unit in central eastern Oregon.

We set up camp 2 days before the season started. My brother Billy is a fanatic about campfires so we stocked up on wood to last a few days.We put up all of the tents and prepared the cooking tent.

9 men were supposed to be in camp for the season.Guys rolled in till the night before opening day .Opening day dawned bright and early and all were ready to hunt.

We broke up into groups to do some drives we had planned the night before. In my morning and afternoon hunts I saw no elk.I did see several rutting buck mule deer and was amazed how they chased the does like it was the only thing on there minds.

I heard good news on the radio early that evening that some of the guys were into some elk.My brother Billy shot a nice spike just before dark but they could not stay on the track because it got dark.

We came back and searched till we found the animal in the wee hours .I came back to camp and started cooking.the boys were starving to death after a cold night in the woods.I had my CAMP CHEF STOVE OVEN COMBO and my BIG GAS GRILL 3 with the DOUBLE BURNER GRILL BOX and was ready to cook cook cook!!!.

The elk was skinned and quartered and hung with help from the whole gang .Everyone was happy and hungry after our first kill of the season.

I cooked many things in the oven and was amazed at how good it worked .The 3 burners came in handy

I could boil a pot of coffee and fry up some eggs and have some sausages sizzling all at the same time.I made breakfast sandwiches with cheese ham and egg and browned them to a golden brown in the oven.Apple spice muffins and a honey ham with glaze and biscuits too.The grill box works great for chicken thighs ,or burger pattys, steaks and stuffed pork chops. One night we used the CAMP CHEF SINGLE BURNER STOVE to make homemade french fries and a deep fried turkey.

We all hunted hard for the next several days. some guys saw elk but no more shots taken ,but we still ate like kings on our CAMP CHEF PRODUCTS.

Part of hunting is about the kill but in this day and age to get a bunch of men together and have good bonding time is very important.Sitting by a blazing fire is a time to reflect and tell stories or lies about the one that got away will bring memories that last a lot longer than the last package of elk steaks.

GOOD HUNTING FROM OUTDOOR CHEF KURT
